Any room for an Atlantean? | [Tag: Anyone]

Kida stepped through the large front doors of Blanditia Academy. The environment was odd to her, which made her slightly on edge. Atlantis was much more tropical and cool compared to that of Italy's landscape. She walked in, barefoot. She never wore shoes. What was the point of them anyway? Gazing around the hall, she wondered if anyone was here. It was awfully quiet for the middle of the day. Unless they were all in their classes. She walked over to a statue, running her fingers over it's features. She picked up the small marble statue and turned it upside down, wondering if it had anything inside. She shook it, hearing nothing. She placed it back, quickly losing interest. She walked over to a light fixture on the wall and touched the metal underneath the light. She flinched. It was still hot from being lit. She looked at her finger with a scowl before glancing up at the chandelier.

Jasmine had always been the type of person who liked to wander. Whether it was back in the plains of Kenya or through the halls of Blanditia Academy, she liked to walk aimlessly about. It was an interesting way of meeting people, after all. And it looked like it would happen again when she spotted a new girl not too far away. She looked about her age, even though her hair was as white as snow. But Jasmine had seen weirder things and wasn't too intimidated by it. "Hi there," she said, giving a friendly smile. "You new here?"

Kida heard footsteps approaching her and turned around, seeing a female student with long dark hair. She nodded at her question. "I'm Kida" she smiled. There was no point in telling people her whole name, since they probably wouldn't be able to pronounce it correctly. "What is your name?" she asked and walked around to look at the girl's hair. She poked at it, wondering why it was tied in those strange bangles. She moved back, "sorry" she chuckled sheepishly and kept her hands behind her back. Seeing other races was strange to her. She had only ever lived in Atlantis her entire life. And everyone there had white hair, blue eyes and tanned skin. Asides from her uncle.

"I'm Jasmine. Nice to meet ya." Kida sounded like a cool enough name. Jasmine laughed when she poked the bangles in her hair. "Pretty cool, huh? My dad got them for my birthday last year. They're totally authentic. You can only get them in Kenya, where I live. What about you? Where do you come from?" Jasmine was always interested to hear where other students had been.

Kida smiled, "they're beautiful" she complimented. She glanced at them again as they shone in the light before turning her gaze to Jasmine. "Kenya? Ah, yes" she smiled. She could remember learning about Kenya in her school in Atlantis. "I'm from Atlantis" she replied. She wondered if people even knee of her city, since it was lost.

"Atlantis?" Jasmine thought that city was just a myth. Of course, there were rumors from supernatural folk that it still existed somewhere, and that they had even seen it, but it seemed like most people just brushed those off as tall tales. "Um, where is that, exactly?" Jasmine asked. Last she had heard, Atlantis had sunk to the bottom of the ocean. At least, that's what the stories always said.

Kida thought for a moment. "Somewhere on the Atlantic ocean. It used to be a sunken city, but it resurfaced many many years ago. Though I'm not sure why or how. This was way before I was born" she smiled. "I think most people who pass by in transportation just assume it's an abandoned island" she chuckled. "And if anyone decides to stop there, they won't find the city. It's extremely well hidden. Only Atlantean's know their way in and out" she added.

"Whoa. That sounds so cool." The idea of a mysterious city sounded intriguing to Jasmine. "Maybe you should take me there sometime. I bet it'd be fun." She gave a grin.

Kida smiled, "I'd love to!" she exclaimed. She couldn't tell if Jasmine was being sarcastic or not, but the thought of rebelling against her uncle by bringing in an outsider into the city sounded like a great idea. Plus, she needed a female friend. She found she was getting way ahead of herself. "Maybe I should take everyone from school there" she grinned to herself and glanced around the hall. "So, Jasmine-" she started, "what do you do for fun around here?" she asked.

Jasmine laughed. "Hope you have enough room for everyone. This place can get pretty packed, especially if a wave of new students come in." It looked like Kida was part of the wave coming in right now. Jasmine couldn't remember seeing so many new students at once before. Maybe word about Blanditia Academy was spreading. "Well, exploring this place is always fun," she said, grinning. "There's always some surprise or another waiting to be found. I've been here for a few years and still manage to find something new from time to time."

Kida nodded, "trust me, there's plenty of room" she grinned. "There's a lot of new students this year?" she asked, tilting her head questioningly. She smiled, "that sounds exciting" she noted. She crossed her arms and leaned her body weight on one foot. "So you have been going here for a long time, then?" she asked.

"More than usual, I think," Jasmine replied. "Who knows, maybe this place is getting more popular." She shrugged. "Yeah, this is my third year here," she said. "My dad figured this was the best place for me to get an education. We deal with regular humans well enough, but he thought this place would be a bit better for me since I wouldn't have to hide what I am."

"Is that a good or a bad thing?" she questioned, curiously, wondering if the Academy was better with less people or more. Kida glanced at Jasmine, wondering what sort of creature she was. "And what are you? If you don't mind my asking" she asked.

"In my opinion, it's better," Jasmine replied, smiling. "Sure, some people are intimidated when strangers come into the picture, but I love meeting new people, so it's no big deal for me." She brushed a strand of hair out of her face. "Oh, I'm a lion shapeshifter," she said, her smile broadening. "Wanna see?"

"A shapeshifter?" her eyes lit up. She had only ever been around witches, wizards and sea folk, so meeting another species was exciting to say the least. "Yeah, of course!" she smiled and waited for Jasmine to change her form.

Jasmine smiled, glad to see Kida excited. She cracked her knuckles for a moment before her body crouched down and started changing. Fur sprouted up, fingernails turned into claws, and a tail grew. It took less than a second, but in that time, Jasmine had gone from human to lion. "Pretty cool, huh?" she said, her tail swishing back and forth.

Kida watched in amazement as Jasmine swiftly transformed into a lioness, merely within seconds. She crouched down to Jasmine's eye level, a wide grin on her face. "This is amazing" she ran her eyes over Jasmine's fur. "Does it hurt when you transform?" she asked, a curious expression clearly on her face. She thought it might, seeing as her body was being contorted and her limbs were growing and shrinking to suit the other form.

"Nah, not really," Jasmine replied. "It's a little weird when you're first learning it, but you get used to it eventually. Once you get older, it practically becomes second nature." Her tail swished again. "Although it is a bit weird transforming inside sometimes. Kind of feels out of place, especially if there's a lot of people in one room."

Kida sat down on the ground properly and looked at Jasmine curiously, "you feel restricted?" she added and raised her eyebrows. Not that she blamed her. Kida felt restricted in this place herself. She was used to being outside in the open, roaming around and doing whatever she pleased. "I do too" she sighed and then lightly shrugged her shoulders. She had already accepted the fact that she was probably never going to return to Atlantis again. Until her uncle died that is.

"A little bit, not too much though," Jasmine replied. "I guess it's because teachers have had an issue about shapeshifting inside, unless it's in the shapeshifting classroom. We had one incident where this guy turned into a dragon right in the dining hall. Wasn't the prettiest scene." Not to mention that the dragon the guy could turn into was as big as a skyscraper. He practically took up the whole room.

Kida's eyes widened when she mentioned a dragon shapeshifter, "whoa! Seriously?" she gasped. "That's... incredible! You don't hear of dragon shapeshifters often!" she exclaimed.
